My first Grahame Wheatley, bought nearly twenty years ago, was a self portrait. I remember his astonishment that anyone should want it.

In 1989 his second self portrait (in historic guise) won a national competition. Princess Anne presented him with his prize.

Three years ago, I commissioned Wheatley to make a series. Some are historic, some comic, some are by way of homage to other painters. I have no doubt of his mastery of this chosen medium.
